Boats On The Move: Riverie in Pittsford & Sam Patch in Brockport Next Week!

CHN boats will be on the move from September 17—22 offering new opportunities for our friends and neighbors throughout the region to experience the history and natural beauty of the Erie Canal.

Sam Patch, CHN’s replica canal packet boat, will travel 25 miles west to the Historic Erie Canal Village of Brockport on Wednesday, September 18 where it will dock at the Village Welcome Center to offer a variety of 90 minute public cruises from Thursday to Sunday, September 19-22 exploring the western Erie Canal. The band, Bellrock-with Dave McGrath, will be playing on Thursday’s 5:30 p.m. sunset cruise.

While Sam Patch is in Brockport, Riverie will dock at Schoen Place in Pittsford from Tuesday, September 17th to Sunday September 22nd. If you have not yet “met” Riverie, this is an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Erie Canal from the spacious decks of CHN’s newest yacht-style boat. Choose from 90-minute Lock 32 cruises with the option to purchase lunch for the noon cruises. For early risers, there will be specialty 75-minute cruises: birding on Saturday the 21st and cider and donuts on Sunday the 22nd.

Great Opportunity for Cyclists
As CHN boats travel to new ports cyclists will have four opportunities to cycle farther on the
Erie Canalway Trail by combining their trip with a cruise aboard Riverie or Sam Patch.

Riverie: Load your bike aboard Riverie at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17 at the Waterfront
Center in Rochester. When Riverie reaches Pittsford at about 4:00 p.m. enjoy a relaxing 10-mile
evening bike ride back to the Waterfront Center following the Erie Canalway Trail and Genesee Riverway Trail.
Sam Patch: Load your bikes on Sam Patch at Pittsford’s Schoen Place at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday,
September 18 for a three-hour trip along the beautiful and historic but less known western
section of Erie Canal, before reaching the Village of Brockport. As you bike the 25 miles back to
Pittsford surrounded by farmlands, you can explore Adams Basin, Spencerport, Greece Canal Park or Henpeck Park, likely with the wind at your back.
Or on Sunday, September 22, load your bikes on board Sam Patch at 11:30 a.m. at the Brockport
Welcome Center for a trip eastward along the Canal, arriving at Pittsford at about 2:30 p.m.
Perhaps with an ice cream in hand, head west on the Erie Canalway Trail for a charming 25-mile
bike ride back to Brockport.
