Getting Ready for Her “Close-up!” Sam Patch Undergoing Major Renovations Over the Winter

The season maybe over, but the work on Sam Patch is just beginning. At more than 30 years old — it’s time for some “reconstructive restoration.” While Sam received a new engine last year, she’s in for some exciting upgrades over the upcoming winter months.

Corn Hill Navigation is passionate about keeping Sam Patch shipshape and ready for many more seasons of memorable cruises along the Erie Canal. It’s more than a restoration, it’s preserving the charm of Sam Patch as a replica early canal boat, while making her even more comfortable and functional for our guests and crew.

Next season, look for a brand-new floor hatch design, new flooring with updated colors, a reimagined galley and head, new countertop materials, fresh window tints to brighten her look and improve comfort for passengers, and more!

So, while Sam Patch hibernates for the winter, rest assured she’s being pampered and polished —and will return in 2026 better than ever. Be sure to follow along on our social media channels for behind-the-scenes photos and progress updates as we give our favorite canal boat the glow she deserves.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone aboard next spring as she cruises into a bright new season! Inside a boat with people seated at tables, enjoying a scenic cruise.
